FAQs
Do I have to sign in my county?
NO. You can sign in any county, but you have to sign a petition designated for your county.
This is generally easiest if you go to a neighboring county. That is, if you live in Mahoning County, you will have better luck signing a petition for Mahoning County in Trumbull or Columbiana than in Franklin, Hamilton, or Wood. Likewise, if you live in Medina, you’ll have better luck in Summit than in Scioto if you cannot find a petition to sign within your county.
I signed in April. Should I sign again?
YES. You should and must sign again if you want your signature to count.
The referendum process is two steps of signature gathering. The first step, which we did in April, was to get the petition language approved and certified. Those signatures do not count toward the 250,000+ we need for the certified petition. They counted then. They were not thrown out. They just do not count toward the 250K+.
When are all the signatures due?
We are turning in ALL SIGNATURES to the Secretary of State on June 25. We must scan in every single petition as its own PDF file before that. Our volunteers are turning in all petitions to us no later than June 22. If you try to sign after June 22, it will be TOO LATE.
Get your signature down by JUNE 21.
Can I sign online?
NO. There is no way for you to sign online.
If there is another petition floating around, it is not for this effort. Ohio Revised Code is VERY CLEAR that signatures must be collected in-person. There is no app to allow you to sign virtually.
Does my signature also count toward the other petition effort?
NO.
There is another petition effort going around to eliminate property taxes in Ohio. The petitions are different in a number of ways (theirs is an amendment, has a higher signature count threshold to meet, and there is a different deadline).
Why aren’t you in my county or my area?
If you do not see any events in our directory where people are gathering signatures, that does not mean that no one is collecting there. They just have not told the campaign they are collecting there. This is indeed quite frustrating, but it is common with petition campaigns.
That being said, we have volunteers who are willing to drive out and meet many folks.
I was at this location and no one was there. What happened?
We are a 100% volunteer campaign. We trust that volunteers will be where they have said they’ll be when they have said they will be there. Sometimes they fall through and it is disappointing – especially when they do not let us know in advance. If this happens, please contact us so that we can follow up and try to connect you with someone who can take your signature.
